SNF commissions UK production site

Wakefield-headquartered chemicals specialist SNF has completed the first phase of commissioning at its new manufacturing plant in Billingham, near Stockton.

The news follows a seven-year project and £100m investment to redevelop the 60-acre brownfield site.

The first of three lines in the main production building is now operational, producing material for the water and wastewater industry.

Set to focus on the creation of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technologies for the nearby North Sea market, lines two and three are due to go live by Q3 of 2018 and Q1 of 2019 respectively.

"Billingham represents a significant expansion to SNFs production capabilities in Europe and marks a key strategic decision to support our growth plans."

“Billingham represents a significant expansion to SNF’s production capabilities in Europe and marks a key strategic decision to support our growth plans,” elaborated SNF’s operations director Andy Helliwell.

A production facility for bio-acrylamide – the main building block in every SNF polymer – will also be online by the end of 2018. SNF’s laboratory, control room, warehouse, gatehouse, tanker bays and office facilities have already been completed.

SNF is a subsidiary of French-owned SNF Floerger – the world leader in polyacrylamide production. As a group, SNF has more than 300,000 clients in 130 countries worldwide. With six primary factories and a further 23 industrial sites, the company has dual manufacturing capabilities on each of its operational continents. SNF employs more than 5,000 people – and counting – including 35 at its Wakefield HQ.
